The RM 72-01, introduced in 2020, marked Richard Mille's first flyback chronograph designed and manufactured entirely in-house. Rather than present it as another racing timer, the brand called it a Lifestyle Chronograph and organised the dial around three differently scaled counters. The result connects dance, music and everyday rhythm to a complication normally framed by motorsport.
Caliber CRMC1 separates chronograph timing from normal timekeeping through a patented system of oscillating pinions. Torque for the chronograph counters comes directly from the barrel, so running the complication does not disturb the base movement's rate or reduce its stated reserve in the usual way. The counters record 24 hours, 60 minutes and running seconds; a date window and crown-function indicator sit within the openworked architecture. Automatic winding, a platinum rotor and approximately fifty hours of reserve make the mechanism practical despite its visual complexity.
Titanium, red gold, ceramic and limited colour editions alter the model's character substantially. The Le Mans Classic version used white and green and was limited to 150 pieces. Across variants, the CRMC1 layout and three counter scales remain the identifying features.
