Introduced in 2014, the RM 07-01 established a compact tonneau format as a technical collection in its own right. It followed the earlier RM 007 but replaced the inherited movement architecture with Richard Mille's in-house CRMA2. The skeletonised automatic calibre provides hours and minutes, a roughly fifty-hour reserve and a variable-geometry rotor that can be adjusted to the wearer's activity.
The model became a laboratory for material and setting techniques. Cases have appeared in gold, Carbon TPT, white and coloured ATZ ceramic and transparent sapphire. Diamond setting is frequently integrated into hard technical materials rather than applied as conventional decoration; machining seats for individual gold prongs in Carbon TPT requires different tools and tolerances from setting a precious-metal case. Later editions also extended this material language into fully integrated gold-and-carbon or all-carbon bracelets.
Although often described as the women's pillar of the collection, the RM 07-01 is collected for the same reasons as larger Richard Mille references: visible engineering, low mass, curved ergonomics and very small production. Case dimensions, material, setting pattern and bracelet can change value substantially. On a pre-owned watch, verify the exact suffix and factory configuration, inspect ceramic or carbon edges and spline screws, and confirm that the variable rotor and automatic winding system have been serviced correctly.
