What Is a Watch Appraisal?

A watch market estimate is a dated view of a likely pre-owned dealer-market range. We consider the exact reference, configuration, production period, condition, known component history, box and papers status, and recent comparable transactions. It is not a purchase offer, auction result, future-price guarantee, or formal valuation for insurance, probate, or legal proceedings. For those purposes, use an independent professional accepted by the requesting institution.

Factors We Evaluate

Maker, Model, and Configuration

Value is not set by the model family alone; metal, dial, size, and exact configuration change the relevant comparison set.

Reference Number

Even within the same model, reference variations significantly affect value. e.g. ceramic bezel vs. aluminum, new movement vs. old.

Production Period

Age alone does not increase value. Period is considered alongside configuration, rarity, service history, condition, and documents.

Condition

Case geometry, polishing history, visible wear, bracelet condition, and functional observations all affect the estimated range.

Component History

Manufacturer service replacements, period-correct parts, and aftermarket parts are different categories. Each known category is stated and reflected in the comparison.

Box, Papers, Receipts

Box, card, receipt, service record, extra links, and accessories are recorded individually. Their effect varies by reference and document; there is no fixed percentage.

How long does an appraisal take?+

Timing depends on the clarity of the reference and photographs and the availability of comparable market evidence. We first identify any missing information; a physical review is scheduled separately.

Which brands can you appraise?+

Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Richard Mille, A. Lange & Söhne, F.P. Journe, IWC, Omega, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre and other luxury brands.

Do I have to sell after the appraisal?+

No. The initial result is an informational dealer market estimate; a direct sale or consignment requires a separate written agreement.

Do you do insurance or divorce appraisals?+

This service is not a formal or legal valuation. For insurance, probate, divorce, or litigation, ask the requesting institution which independent professional and document format it accepts.
