What Is a Watch Appraisal?

Watch appraisal is the process of determining your luxury watch's current pre-owned market value. We look at brand, model, reference, year of production, condition, originality of parts, box/papers status, and market demand. Bedesten Watches has been buying and selling watches in Istanbul since 1999. We follow international markets closely, so we can share not just today's value but also short-term trend forecasts.

Factors We Evaluate

Brand and Model

A Rolex Daytona is worth much more than a Datejust in the same condition. Some models (Submariner Hulk, GMT-Master II Pepsi) have appreciated well above MSRP.

Reference Number

Even within the same model, reference variations significantly affect value. e.g. ceramic bezel vs. aluminum, new movement vs. old.

Year of Production

For vintage, age generally increases value (the 1970s golden age). For modern watches, year matters for warranty and service status.

Condition

We grade mint, very good, good, lightly worn etc. Polishing history, scratches, movement condition all affect value.

Originality

All parts (movement, dial, hands, case, bracelet) being original is critical. Aftermarket changes significantly reduce value.

Box, Papers, Receipts

A "full set" can increase value by 15-30%, especially on popular models.
